The Foundation houses ex-Service personnel with a wide variety of disabilities. We are committed to ensuring that they can be successfully sustained in independent living. A successful model is now firmly in place that combines good quality housing and the provision of support services within a viable and supportive community.
This achievement is evident at our flagship community at Stoll Mansions in Fulham, which has provided supported housing since 1916. The 157 flats at Stoll Mansions were originally built to provide a home for permanently injured war heroes and their families but they now house a more diverse group of ex-Service personnel whose backgrounds and circumstances are varied.
To meet the changing and ever increasing needs of the ex-Service community, the Foundation has also expanded its services beyond the Mansions. We have developed a partnership with Home Base, an ex-Service homelessness project, to provide short term homes for younger former homeless ex-Service personnel. In 2003, we were invited by the Trustees of the Chiswick War Memorial Homes to assume the Trusteeship of the charity and the management of their 18 home estate in Chiswick. We were charged by the previous Trustees to undertake a comprehensive modernization of the estate and its facilities and the planning of this project is now underway.
The Foundation has most recently developed its Westway Beacons scheme, providing another 20 homes for former homeless ex-Service personnel. The Foundation now owns or manages in excess of 200 homes.
