Chiswick War Memorial Homes

The Foundation is sole Trustee of Chiswick War Memorial Homes (CWMH); a site that contains 18 unites, 12 of which are currently occupied by a mixture of elderly and disabled ex-Service personnel. The site stands on 1.56 acres and is within easy access of the Foundation's other sites in Fulham and East Acton.

The Foundation aims, over a two-phased programme, to provide a community comprising 36 homes specifically designed for vulnerable and disabled ex-Service personnel, including those who have been homeless. The homes, which will be mixture of one, two and three-bed flats, will all comply to decent homes standards set by the Government and eight will be fully wheelchair accessible.

In the centre of the scheme will be a hub providing a community focus that will incorporate IT, well-being activities and training and back-to-work facilities, and will provide a base for a permanent member of support staff. The IT will be networked with the Stollnet Project for silver surfers and the Learning Zone, both of which are currently in place at the Foundation's other locations in Fulham and East Acton.

As well as these new facilities, the Foundation will provide links to residents at all the Foundation's other sites, thereby preventing the isolation that so many elderly, vulnerable and disabled people experience. The Foundation will also encourage social interaction and activities on CWMH itself, which has been successful on our other sites, thus promoting social cohesion and well-being.

Our aim at CWMH is to settle Veterans, help rebuild their lives through facilitating community inclusion and back-to-work activities, and encourage fully-independent living for those who are capable of achieving this. The project will transform the existing estate into a vibrant and well supported ex-Service community, providing much needed accommodation to the highest standards and should be completed by June 2010.
